How We Grade Your Cards

Our expert team follows a rigorous process to ensure accurate and consistent grading results.

Our 5-Step Grading Process

  1. Initial Inspection
    Each card undergoes a preliminary examination to verify authenticity and identify any obvious defects or alterations.
  2. Surface Evaluation
    Our graders examine the card's surface under specialized lighting to detect scratches, print defects, and other surface issues.
  3. Corners & Edges Assessment
    We carefully examine the corners and edges for wear, sharpness, and damage using high-magnification tools.
  4. Centering Measurement
    Using precise measurement tools, we calculate the centering ratios of the card's front and back designs.
  5. Final Grade Assignment
    After evaluating all criteria, our graders assign a final grade, and the card is encapsulated in our protective slab.

Grading Criteria

Our grading system evaluates cards based on four primary criteria, weighted for accuracy and fairness:

  1. Surface
    ‍    We examine the card's surface for scratches, print defects, stains, fading, and other imperfections that affect its appearance.
  2. Corners
    The sharpness and condition of all four corners are evaluated for wear, fraying, and damage.
  3. Edges
    ‍    We assess the condition of the card's edges for wear, chipping, and smoothness.
  4. Centering
    The alignment of the card's design is measured to determine how well it's centered on both the front and back.

Each criterion is scored individually, and these scores are combined to determine the final grade.

Grading Scale

Gem Mint

A virtually perfect card. Sharp corners, flawless surface, perfect centering, and no visible imperfections even under magnification.

Gem Mint+

Nearly perfect. May have one very minor flaw such as a tiny edge speck or slight centering variation. Still exceptionally clean and sharp.

Mint

High-grade card with only minor flaws. Slight centering issues or a tiny surface mark may be present, but overall very clean.

Near Mint-Mint

Very light wear visible upon close inspection. Slight edge or corner wear, small surface marks, or slightly off-center.

Near-Mint

Noticeable but minor wear on corners, edges, or surface. No major defects, but card shows light handling or storage wear.

Excellent-Mint

Light but visible signs of wear. May include soft corners, small surface scratches, or mild edge wear.

Excellent

Moderate visible wear. Possible small creases, whitening, or dull corners. Suitable for casual collection or play.

Very Good-Excellent

More pronounced wear including multiple minor flaws. Edges, corners, and surface clearly show use.

Very Good

Heavy edge and corner wear, visible creasing, or other damage. Still identifiable but far from pristine.

Good

Major flaws throughout. Multiple creases, heavy whitening, and/or surface issues. Borderline playable condition.

Poor/Fair

Severe damage including tears, stains, missing pieces, or major creasing. Little to no collector value outside of rarity.

How do I know my card is safe?

Your card is securely stored with tamper-proof handling protocols. Every card is tracked through our system from arrival to encapsulation, ensuring complete security throughout the process.

Can I track my grading status?

Not right now. We are working on a login and dashboard to track your cards.

What happens if my card is fake

If a card is deemed inauthentic, we will notify you immediately. Depending on your selected return option, you can choose to have the card sent back or securely disposed of. We do not encapsulate counterfeit cards.
